Vine ages are between 20-55 years. Classic Gevrey meaty notes, intense florals, medium plus body, with a fine well enrobed mineral core giving this drive. This is gorgeously precise and measured.
The 2016 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Lavrottes is located in the north of the appellation that was less affected by the frost, so this was cropped at around 25 hectoliters per hectare. It was harvested toward the end of the harvest to gain concentration, includes 30% whole-bunch fruit and was raised in 50% new oak. I like the nose. Gentle at first, then opening its arms and revealing lovely redcurrant, cranberry and crushed strawberry aromas tinged with gravel. The palate is medium-bodied with fine but firm tannin, a fine bead of acidity and good structure?you can feel this gripping the mouth so that the saline finish is almost like a Morey-Saint-Denis. This is a great wine and it should provide longevity if you swing that way.
