The 2015 Reyneke Reserve saw 35% of the grapes foot-trodden in concrete tanks (to avoid carbonic fermentation) and the rest destemmed into the tank. The wine was settled for two days and then racked to second-ll barrels and left for 20 months. The best barrels were chosen and racked to tank, after which the wine was bottled. It has a perfumed bouquet with iris- and violet-infused black fruit, white pepper and a touch of star anise; blue fruit emerges with time. The palate is medium-bodied with grippy tannin. There is very good density and nely tuned acidity here, the second half quite dense and broody yet still fresh and detailed, leading to a stony, cracked black pepper nish with a hint of Provençal herbs. Superb.
