Known as Cuvée M until the 2015 vintage, the 2017 Grand Cru Mandelberg Riesling is only the second edition of this Mittelwihr wine sold under the Alsace Grand Cru classification, although Trimbach has cultivated this warm south/southeast-sloping cru, with vines about 60 years old on poor limestone and marl-limestone soils, since 1996. It is one of the only three Alsace grands crus not from the sub-Vosges hills, which makes it a sunnier and warmer terroir, which the 2017 characterizes immediately. Ripe and dried white fruit aromas unfurl from the glass, indicating a rich and aromatic, even powerful wine. On the palate, this is a mouth-filling, rich and dense Riesling with warm and concentrated fruit but also remarkable structural mineral freshness. This is a powerful Riesling with a long, saline and lemony finish that also reveals fine tannins and good salinity. 13.5% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted in January 2023.
