The 2017 Chardonnay Los Carneros bounds boldly from the glass with notions of ripe pineapple, honeydew melon and green mango plus hints of honeycomb and brioche. Medium to full-bodied, there's a pleasant oiliness to the texture and bags of freshness, finishing long and spicy.
The 2017 Chardonnay is produced from old Wnete Clone planted in the cool AVA of Carneros. As one of the most sought after Chardonnay clones known for producing liquid gold, this vineyard is planted in tight rows oriented east to west to capture every ray of sunshine while protecting it from burn during the mid day heat. This year marked the ?official? end of the 7 year drought. While the vineyard is typically dry farmed, its water tolerance results in high quality fruit with a dense flavor structure. Harvest occured on Sept 8, 2017 just days before a concerning heat spike and high winds kicked off the fire of the century. The wine was safely in the tank while Matt and the team hunkered down to worked 'round the clock as the mayhem burning acres of land at our doorstep ripped fear across the valley. It was a terrifying end to such a perfect growing season and looking back; given how lucky we were, makes the wine tastes all the better. Winemaker Notes
